The American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard program is designed to guide youth ages 7 to 14 to the Red Cross Lifeguard course by building a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills of future lifeguards. Youth participants will be introduced to all the components of the Lifeguard Course such as: victim recognition, rescue skills, first aid, CPR, AED, and the development of swimming skills and endurance. Along the way, students will meet new friends, have fun, increase leadership skills, learn future work skills, and most importantly, learn how to respond to emergencies. This program is an excellent way for youth to get a jump on the competition in future employment as a lifeguard.
All Junior Lifeguard applicants must pass a Swimming Proficiency Test that includes: (1) Swim 100 yards (4 lengths) (2) Tread water for at least two minutes. (3) Swim 5 yards underwater.
